초록
In the 12th century, with the widespread establishment of universities across Europe, medical education began to take place within academic institutions. Initially, medical schools trained only physicians, while surgeons acquired their medical knowledge and skills individually under the mentorship of senior doctors with surgical expertise. Until Flexner’s reforms in 1910, methods of medical education varied widely, and no standardized curriculum had been established. Following the reform of medical education in the United States in 1910, standardization was implemented in most medical schools worldwide. Since then, medical knowledge has expanded enormously, and the training of specialists has become increasingly prevalent. In recent years, educational research has emphasized the importance of instruction tailored to individual characteristics. As the competencies required of medical professionals and the career paths of new doctors have become more diverse, the need for personalized medical education has grown significantly. Although elements of individualized medical education have already been introduced and its necessity widely recognized, personalized medical education has not yet been fully integrated into practice. To implement such an approach effectively, further improvements in medical education systems are required, and personalizing medical education should be regarded as a vital component of this ongoing process.
