초록

Recent developments in medical education have emphasized the need to design learning pathways that align with students’ diverse interests, competencies, and future career plans. In line with this trend, Seoul National University College of Medicine (SNUCM) has sought to move beyond a standardized curriculum and offer more personalized learning opportunities. This paper describes three such initiatives: the Premedicine Curriculum Path Model (CPM), the Global Health Pathway Curriculum, and the Continuum Research Program. First, the CPM in the premedical program allows students to design individualized coursework based on their interests, abilities, and career aspirations, thereby promoting self-directed learning. It encourages indepth exploration not only within medicine but also across a range of academic fields. Second, the Global Health Pathway Curriculum systematically integrates required courses, electives, and field experiences to broaden students’ global perspectives on healthcare and to cultivate a sense of social responsibility. Third, the Continuum Research Program embeds research experiences within the formal curriculum, enabling students to pursue sustained research on topics of interest. This structure strengthens foundational research skills while fostering advanced scholarly engagement, gradually nurturing students’ identities as physician-scientists. Most students participating in these personalized programs reported high satisfaction and engagement. However, sustained institutional and administrative support will be essential for the long-term establishment of such tailored curricula. Taken together, SNUCM’s experience offers empirical evidence underscoring the importance of personalized medical education in Korea and provides valuable insights for universities seeking to design innovative curricula that reflect students’ goals and competencies.
