이 글은 인문학의 수사학과 사회과학의 방법론적 차이를 설명한다. 일상생활에서 우리는 말하기와 글쓰기를 활용하여 의사소통한다. 수사학은 말씀과 언어를 수단으로 설득을 목적으로 하는 논증의 이론이다. 사회과학은 물리적 현상을 탐구하는 자연과학과는 대비되는 인문과학이나, 철학적 논리분석과 탐미적 직관에 의존하기보다는 자연과학의 경험론적 사실주의에 근거하여 과학적 사실을 제시하고 이론적 논리를 검증한다는 점에서 인문학과는 다른 성격을 갖는다. 사회과학과 수사학의 철학적 사상은 양자 모두 인본주의의 기반위에 인간의 가치와 행위 질서를 탐구의 대상으로 간주한다는 점에서 크게 차별화 되지 않는다. 그러나 사회과학은 자연과학의 경험적 실증주의에 근거한 유형화된 가치체계와 행위양식을 법칙적으로 정립하는 것을 목적으로 한다. 반면에 수사학은 자연과학과 사회과학의 연구결과를 인간의 상호지식으로 수용하여 언어와 말씀의 변증법으로 사람의 가치인식과 행위 태도를 변화시키는 자각의 설득과 행위실천의 학문으로 자리매김 되고 있다. 그러므로 수사학은 가치와 이론의 논증 학문으로, 그것의 변증적 논증기반은 기존의 자연 및 사회과학의 지식이라 할 수 있다.
Abstract
This article aims to compare the research methods between social sciences and the rhetorics. There is no essential differences in their natures of science in social sciences and the rhetorics. However, social sciences tries to find out scientific facts of life and a law-like general principles by using a scientific research method of natural sciences. As a human science the rhetorics is a theory of argu- mentations applying a dialectical method and it’s goal of scientific inquiry is a transformation of people’s attitudes and behaviors throu- gh dialogues and discourses on social topics. Thus, the rhetorics is a tool of scientific knowledge bridging people’s ideas and theories to a real practice in the realities of life.
