초록

To evaluate the alleviating effect of black tea water extract (BTWE) on skin-barrier damage and inflammation, the aging animal model was produced by 12 weeks-irradiation of UVB to the backs of 6-7 weeks old female SKH-1 hairless mice three times a week, increasing the intensity each week @ 60 mJ/㎠ (1MED): 1MED at week 1; 2MED at week 2; 3MED at week 3; and 4MED at week 4-12. Then, BTWE was applied to the backs of the aging animals twice a day, 5 days a week for 4 weeks, 200 ㎕ each time (BTWE 1%: 0.13g/kg BW/day, 2%: 0.26g/kg BW/day). The skin erythema indices and transepidermal water loss (TEWL) of the two groups: the positive control (UVB + 0.01% retinoic acid) and experimental (UVB + BTWE) groups, were significantly (p<0.05) lower than the control (UVB + saline) group. Moisture capacities of these two groups were significantly (p<0.05) higher than the control group. The epidermis and dermis of the control group were remarkably thickened in comparison with the normal (no treatment) group. Many inflammatory cells were infiltrated in the dermis of the control group. Whereas, a few inflammatory cells were found in the dermis of the positive control and experimental groups. A large number of mast cells were found in dermis and hypodermis of the control group, and the degree of degranulation was remarkable. Whereas, a considerably less number of mast cells were found in the positive control and experimental groups relative to the control group, and the degree of degranulation was slight, which were similar to the normal group. BTWE could have a considerable improving effects on skin aging in hairless mice induced by UVB irradiation via alleviating of skin-barrier damage and inflammation.

Abstract

Moisture capacities of these two groups were significantly (p<0.05) higher than the control group. The epidermis and dermis of the control group were remarkably thickened in comparison with the normal (no treatment) group.
