Wearing of the tip of a triple-pronged needle used for semi-permanent makeup was studied using scanning electron microscopy (SEM). SEM micrographs showed that prior to the use of the triple-pronged needle, its tips were sharp and the gap between the needle tips was about 180 ㎛. Among the three needles with worn tips, the two outer needles were worn on one side and had a sharp, diagonally inclined shape. The tip of the center needle was also worn but was of round shape, while the surface appeared to be very smooth. The tips of the triple-pronged needles used in semi- permanent makeup were all worn out, and the gap between the needle tips was approximately 500 ㎛, larger than that of a unused new needle.
