The Effect of Educational Satisfaction and Practical Relevance on Employment Preparation Behavior in Cosmetology Vocational School

In this study, a survey targeting beauty vocational schools in Daegu and Gyeongbuk was conducted from February to June 2021. Convenience sampling was used for collection of data; a self-filling-type questionnaire method was used by the study subjects in completion of the questionnaire. Following distribution of 250 questionnaires, excluding non-response or inappropriate questionnaires for data use, 225 questionnaires were considered in the final analysis. A t-test, ANOVA, Pearson correlation coefficient, and multiple linear regression analysis were used in the analysis, and the results were as follows. Educational satisfaction and practical suitability were major determinants having a significant effect on the level of job preparation behavior. By contrast, regarding nail subjects compared to skin subjects, the level of practical compatibility was significantly lower, compared to nails and hair; in the case of skin, a significantly lower trend was observed for the level of job preparation behavior. Based on the results of the research described above, there is a need for improvement of educational satisfaction of trainees in cosmetology vocational school. Organizing and utilizing differentiated practical training programs for each major that can actually be applied in the beauty industry for enhancement of professionalism and self-competence of trainees according to the courses taken is required in order to encourage active job preparation behavior.
