Abstract
Our study aimed to investigate the concern of middle school girls with their appearance and its impact on makeup behavior and self-esteem. The participants were 280 students from C girls' middle school in C city. We conducted the survey from October 14 to November 4, 2024. We collected a total of 272 surveys, and after excluding 21 invalid responses, 251 surveys were used for the final analysis. Our results demonstrate that as the level of concern with appearance increases, the urge to apply makeup also increases. Increased concern with appearance is also associated with increased self-esteem. Increased makeup behavior is linked to enhanced self-esteem. Correlation analysis of the factors revealsstatistically significant relationships. In conclusion, our study confirms that increased concern with appearance positively influences makeup behavior and resulting self-esteem among middle school girls. This suggests that adolescents can form a positive self-image and boost their self-confidence through behavior that manages appearances. Therefore, programs and counseling that support habits to manage a healthy appearance are necessary for adolescents since such habits play a vital role in helping to develop positive self-esteem.
