Abstract

Recognizing that self-confidence in middle-aged men suffers due to hair loss during their socially active years, our study aims to understand their lifestyles and to investigate their impact on their hair loss management behavior. We examined the relationship and tested the associations between each variable of lifestyles and hair loss management. We surveyed middle-aged men between 40 and 64 years in Chungcheongnam and Chungcheongbuk provinces from December 2024 to February 2025. We used responses from 287 individuals in the final analysis. From our analysis, we identified the lifestyle indicators as appearance, health, and interest in social relations. We divided hair loss management behavior into food and medicine intake; procedure and device management; and efforts to sustain lifestyle habits. Food and medicine intake under hair loss management behavior were positively (+) associated with appearance and interest in social relations. Procedure and device management were positively (+) associated with social relations and negatively (-) associated with health. Efforts to sustain lifestyle habits had a positive (+) impact on interest in social relations. We hope that the findings of our study will serve as foundational data to create programs that will improve healthy food and living habits to benefit hair loss management behavior. Furthermore, our study results hope to contribute to the hair loss management market that targets middle-aged men through professional procedures or effective self-management.
