본 연구는 도시 중심의 범죄 연구 방식에서 벗어나 국내의 지역적 특성, 흔히 농촌으로 지칭되는 비도시 지역의 공간 및 범죄발생 특성 비교를 통해 지역적 특성을 고려한 범죄 연구의 기초를 마련하기 위한 시도였다. 이를 위해 지역을 구분하는 단위, 분류 유형 및 기준을 도출하였고, 이에 더해 지역 유형별 공간적 특성이 범죄발생에 미치는 영향을 확인하였다. 연구목적에 맞는 지역 단위로 기초자치단체(시군구)를 선정하고, 전국의 218개 기초자치단체에 대한 인구사회적 특성, 지리공간적 특성, 폭력범죄 발생률 등을 수집, 분석하였다. 기초자치단체의 유형 분류를 위해 지역 특성을 기준으로 잠재프로파일분석(LPA)을 실시한 결과 기초자치단체를 두 개 유형으로 구분하는 것이 가장 적합한 것으로 나타났다. 두 유형은 지역 특성에 있어서 뚜렷한 차이를 보였고, 도시와 농촌으로 분류할 수 있었다. 지역 유형 분류의 타당성을 확인하기 위해서 지역 범위를 달리하여 폭력범죄 발생률에 대한 회귀분석을 실시한 결과, 대상 지역에 따라 지역 특성의 영향은 차이가 있었다. 즉, 전국적인 분석과 도시와 농촌 각각의 분석에서 유의미한 설명변수, 그리고 그 영향력은 다른 양상을 보였으며, 도시와 농촌 지역의 특성을 잘 반영하고 있었다. 본 연구를 바탕으로 지역적 차이를 고려한 범죄실태 연구는 물론, 지역 현실에 맞는 범죄 대응 정책 수립이 활성화되기를 기대한다.
Abstract
This study was an attempt to lay the groundwork for crime research considering regional characteristics by comparing the spatial and crime characteristics of non-urban areas, often referred to as rural areas, away from urban-centered crime research methods. To this end, the units, classification types, and standards to classify regions were derived, and the effect of spatial characteristics of each region type on crime occurrence was confirmed. Primary local governments were selected as a regional unit suitable for the purpose of the study, and demographic and social characteristics, geospatial characteristics, and violent crime rates were collected and analyzed for 218 local governments across the country. As a result of conducting a latent profile analysis (LPA) based on regional characteristics to classify the types of local governments, it was found that it is most appropriate to classify the local governments into two types. The two types showed a distinct difference in regional characteristics and could be classified into urban and rural areas. As a result of performing a regression analysis on the violent crime incidence rate with different regional ranges to confirm the validity of regional type classification, the effect of regional characteristics was different depending on the target region. In other words, significant explanatory variables and their influences were different in the national analysis and the urban and rural analysis respectively, and the characteristics of urban and rural areas were well reflected. Based on this study, it is expected that not only the research on the crime situation taking into account regional differences, but also the establishment of crime response policies suitable for local realities will be activated.
