본 연구는 마약범죄 발생에 영향을 미치는 사회구조적 요인을 사회해체이론과 범죄패턴이론의 관점에서 분석하였다. 이를 위해 2023년 전국 시군구별 마약범죄 발생 현황 및 관련 지역 특성 자료를 수집하여 활용하였다. 잠재프로파일분석을 통해 전국을 도시와 농촌으로 구분한 후, 전체 지역, 도시 지역, 농촌 지역을 대상으로 회귀분석을 실시하였다. 분석 결과, 도시 지역에서는 민족적 이질성, 거주이동성, 고령화 정도, 지역 내 의사 수, 주점 수, 공항·항만과의 거리가 마약범죄 발생에 정적(+) 영향을 미치는 것을 확인하였다. 반면, 농촌 지역에서는 어떠한 변수도 유의미한 영향을 미치지 않는 것을 확인하였다. 이는 농촌 지역에서 마약범죄가 거의 발생하지 않아 종속변수의 분산 부족에 기인한 것이 아니라, 양귀비 등 식물 재배를 통한 범죄 유형이 상대적으로 많아 농촌 지역의 다른 공간적 특징이 유효한 영향을 미치지 못한 것으로 해석된다. 이러한 결과를 바탕으로, 본 연구는 마약범죄의 세부 유형별로 차별화된 정책 대응이 필요함을, 정교한 분석을 위해 보다 세분화된 범죄 데이터의 수집·공개가 중요함을 강조하였다.
Abstract
This study examines the socio-structural factors influencing drug crime incidence through the lenses of social disorganization theory and crime pattern theory. For this purpose, data on drug crime occurrences and associated regional characteristics in 2023 were collected and analyzed. Using latent profile analysis (LPA), 228 regions were classified as either urban or rural, and separate regression analyses were conducted for the full sample, urban areas, and rural areas. The results reveal that in urban areas, ethnic heterogeneity, population mobility, the proportion of elderly residents, the number of medical doctors, the density of drinking establishments, and proximity to airports or seaports have significant positive effects on drug crime incidence. In contrast, no variables were found to have statistically significant effects in rural areas. This finding is not attributed to low crime rates or limited variance in the dependent variable, but rather to the prevalence of specific types of drug crimes—such as poppy cultivation—in rural areas, which may reduce the relevance of other spatial characteristics. Based on these findings, the study suggests that policy responses should be differentiated according to the specific type of drug crime. It also highlights the importance of making more granular crime data publicly available to facilitate more precise and nuanced analyses.
