Abstract
The process of globalization and the 4th Industrial Revolution have significantly transformed the security environment, leading to a sharp increase in transnational crimes and thus highlighting the growing importance of international police cooperation. This study explores practical strategies for strengthening the Korean National Police’s international cooperation by analyzing the current status and limitations of its engagements with international organizations such as INTERPOL and Europol. It examines the Australian Federal Police(AFP)’s international cooperation strategies, operational frameworks, and representative training programs (PPDP-R, LECP, and PPI). Particular attention is given to the AFP’s efforts to institutionalize regional security cooperation through a government-supported international capacity-building program and platform, focusing on the Pacific region. Based on this analysis, the study suggests three key strategies for Korean Police: (1) establishing a regularized international police training system, (2) building a region-based cooperation platform, and (3) fostering an open and expansive international network. By presenting institutional and strategic directions to enhance practical cooperation, this study aims to contribute to the development of a sustainable and future-oriented model for Korea’s international police cooperation.
