한국 불교 사전의 편찬 흐름을 개괄, 정리하고 그 성과와 한계를 짚어본 후에 향후나아갈 방향에 대한 필자의 견해를 밝힌 글이다. 먼저 근현대 이후 편찬된 우리나라 최초의 불교 사전으로 운허용하의 『불교사전』, 한국 최초의 선학 전문 사전이라고 할 수 있는 이철교⋅일지⋅신규탁 편찬 『선학사전(禪學辭典)』, 불교종합대백과사전을 표방하며 그동안 상대적으로 소홀히 다루어진 한국불교 술어의 발굴과 결집에도 초점을 맞추고 있는 『가산불교대사림』 등을 비롯하여모두 7권의 책을 들어 불교 사전의 편찬 흐름을 개괄하였다. 한국 불교 사전의 역사를 써 가고 있는 『가산불교대사림』을 통해 우리나라 사전 편찬 현실의 명과 암을 짚어보고, 왜 전문 분과 사전이 요구되는가의 문제를 다루었다.
Abstract
The article outlines the compilation flow of Korean Buddhist dictionaries, discusses their achievements and limitations, and expresses the author’s view on the future direction. First, Unheo Yongha’s Buddhist Dictionary, which is the first Buddhist dictionary compiled after modern times, and Yi Cheolgyo, Ilji, and Sin Gyutak, the first dictionary in zen studies, and finally the compilation flow of Buddhist dictionaries was outlined by taking KASAN ENCYCLOPEDIA OF BUDDHISM, which focuses on the excavation and collection of Korean Buddhist academic languages that have been relatively neglected. In addition, four other dictionaries were reviewed together in the order of the year they were published. Through KASAN ENCYCLOPEDIA OF BUDDHISM, which is writing the history of Korean Buddhist dictionaries, the book deals with light and darkness of Korea’s pre-editing reality and why specialized subdivision dictionary are required.
