The main purposes of this paper are to investigate students’ perceptions on the current general English courses and to suggest the effective curricula and syllabuses in accordance with the research results based on the students' needs analysis. This paper reports the results of a survey at H university and the survey was conducted to 199 students. The results show that students are generally satisfied with the current general English courses and they think they can get necessary skills for seeking jobs through the college general English programs. However, the study shows relatively low satisfaction with current ability grouping classes even though they indicate their preferences for the ability grouping classes. It is necessary to improve and make up for the unsatisfying points in the current ability grouping system. In terms of instructors, the result shows that they prefer team teaching classes of native and Korean English instructors. In addition, they respond that the causes of inefficient learning are attributed to their low-motivated learning attitudes toward classes and the lack of general English program-management in the school.
