Portraits of Korean EFL students' perceptions of technology for language learning

초록

컴퓨터와 스마트폰과 같은 테크놀러지를 이용한 영어학습의 방법은 다양하고 널리 알려져 있다. 본 연구에서는 영어학습자들이 어떤 방법으로, 또 어떤 종류의 테크놀러지를 이용하는지 알아보는 데에 목적을 두고 있다. 45명의 대학생 EFL 학생들이 사용하는 테크놀러지의 종류에 관한 내용과 테크놀러지 사용에 대한 의견에 대해 묻는 설문지에 응했다. 학생들의 답변은 제출된 의견들 중에 비슷한 내용별로 분류되어 살펴보았다. 젊은층의 EFL 학생들은 테크놀러지를 많이 이용할 것이라는 예상에 맞게, 그들의 테크놀러지를 이용한 영어학습에 대한 생각은 다소 긍정적인 의견이 많았다. 학생들은 영어 듣기, 말하기, 읽기, 쓰기의 순으로 테크놀로지가 유용하다고 생각했으며, 남학생과 여학생의 테크놀러지의 유용함에 대한 의견에는 통계적으로 유의미하지 않았다. 그들이 영어학습을 하는 횟수는 일주일에 1번 이상으로 조사된 경우가 60% 이상으로 조사되었고, 영어 공부할 때 가장 많이 이용하는 테크놀러지 종류에는 다양한 종류의 스마트폰 애플리케이션과 인터넷 사이트를 알아볼 수 있었다. 학생들이 답변한 테크놀로지에 대한 의견에는 유용성, 편리함과 같은 일반적인 의견과 테크놀러지 사용함에서 오는 편안함과 같은 정서적인 것과 관련된 의견을 알아볼 수 있었으며, 이러한 학생들의 답변이 주는 의미와 앞으로의 연구가 어떻게 되어져야 할지에 대한 논의가 포함되었다.
