고등학생의 영어 듣기 학습을 위한 스마트폰 앱 활용 방안

모바일 기기와 앱은 컴퓨터 없이 영어 수업 현장에서 편하고 쉽게 다양하고 창의적인 학습을 제공할 수 있다. 그러나 아직까지 영어교실에서 효율적으로 활용되고 있지 않다. 본 연구의 목적은 우리나라 고등학교에서 스마트폰 활용 영어 듣기 학습의 현황, 학습자 인식 및 선호도를 조사하고개선 방안을 제시하는 것이다. 연구 방법으로는 설문조사와 인터뷰를 실시했으며 연구 대상은 스마트폰 앱 활용 경험이 있는 K시의 고등학교 3 학년 125명이다. 본 연구의 주요 연구 결과는 다음과 같다. 첫째, 응답자의 79.5%가 영어 학습, 그리고 59%가 영어 듣기 학습에 스마트폰 앱 활용한 경험이 있는 것으로 나타났다. 둘째, 스마트폰 앱 활용 영어 듣기 학습 활동 및 내용에 대한 고등학생의 인식은 상당하게 긍정적으로 나타났다. 영어 듣기 학습 활동에서는 무엇보다도 만족도와 유용도에 대한 학생들의 인식이 매우 높게 나왔다(만족도 97.4%, 유용도 96.6%). 셋째, 스마트폰 앱 활용 영어 듣기 학습에서 가장 선호하는 활동은 선택하기(41.9%), 순서 나열하기(24.8%)와 예측하기(21.6%)로 나타났다. 마지막으로 본 연구에 사용된 설문, 관련 듣기 학습 앱과 활동을 바탕으로 효율적인 활용 방안을 제시하였고, 후속 연구로 다른 지역의 더 많은 고등학생을 대상으로설문 조사와 실험 연구를 제안하였다.
Abstract
Mobile devices and apps can conveniently provide creative and diverse activities in language classes without computers. However, it seems that they are not used in full-scale for teaching and learning in language classes. This study explores the students’ perspectives and preferences of using a smartphone app for English listening based on the current situation in Korea. The subjects for the study are 125 high school students who have experiences of using smartphone apps. Data collection instruments include the questionnaire and interview. The major findings were as follows. First, 79.5 and 59 percent of the students have used smart phone apps to learn English and for English listening. Second, most of the students had positive perspectives of using a smartphone app for listening. 97.4 percent of the students were satisfied with using the smartphone app, and 96.6 percent thought it useful in learning listening. Third, the students preferred multiple choice over sequencing and predicting in using the smartphone app for listening. Based on the findings, some solutions for using apps are recommended. More surveys from different regions and the true experiment using the app and activities with the larger sample size of the students are suggested for further research.
