A Study of Teacher Cognition and its Impact on English Writing Practices in a University Level

이 연구는 대학에서 영어 쓰기를 가르치는 교사의 쓰기 교육에 대한 인식은 무엇이며, 교사의 인식과 교실 활동에 영향을 미치는 요인과 교사의 인식과 쓰기 지도활동을 제약하는 상황요소들은 무엇인지를 고찰하는데 목적이 있다. 연구를 통해 교사는 과정 중심 글쓰기의 중요성을 인식하면서도 교실에서는 어휘와 문법에서 정확한 글이 되도록 하는 결과 중심 글쓰기 지도법을 사용하는 것으로 발견되었다. 교사는 학생들에게 통제작문 위주로 정확한 문장 완성과 단락 구성을 하도록 하고, 모형 텍스트를 제시하여 비슷하게 쓰도록 하면서, 쓰는 도중에 계속 문법이 맞는지를 확인하고, 사전 사용을 격려하는 것으로 나타났다. 교사의 피드백이나 오류 교정 및 평가 과제 제시에서도 문법적으로 오류 없는 글이 중요하다는 인식을 반영하는 것으로 확인되었다. 영어 쓰기교육에 대한 교사의 이런 인식과 실천은 과거 학습자로서의 경험과 독해 및 문법 지도 경험 및 동료 강사들과의 워크숍과 세미나에 의해 영향을 받고 있으며, 특히 영어 문법을 전공한 점이 크게 영향을 미치고 있는 것으로 분석되었다. 시간제약과 대학 교육과정, 학생의 영어능력과 학급크기 등은 교사의 인식이 교실에서 구현되는 것을 방해하는 요인으로 작용하였다.
