The effects of mobile applications on EFL learners’ listening anxiety

본 연구에서는 모바일 애플리케이션이 EFL 학생들의 리스닝 불안감에 어떠한 영향을 미치는지에 대해 알아보았다. 영어학습자들이 모바일 앱을 사용했을 때 리스닝 불안감에 변화가 있는지, 또한 일정기간동안 사용 후 학습자들이 학습도구로서 앱을 어떻게 생각하는지를 알아보는 데에 목적이 있다. 56명의 대학생들을 대상으로 총 4주간 모바일 앱을 사용하도록 한 후, 실험 전과 후를 Foreign Language Listening Anxiety Scale을 통해 비교해보고, 설문을 통해 학생들의 영어리스닝을 위한 모바일 앱 사용에 대한 의견을 종합해 분석해 보았다. 그 결과, 양적인 결과에서 대부분 듣기 불안감이 줄어든 변화가 보이긴 했으나 통계적으로 유의미함은 나타나지 않았다. 하지만, 설문지를 통해 드러난 학생들의 의견을 통해 학생들이 모바일 앱의 유용성과 편리함과 같은 긍정적인 면에 대해 많이 느끼는 것을 알 수 있었으며, 단점보다는 장점에 대해 기억함을 알 수 있었다. 실험기간이 그렇게 길지 않았고, 통계적인 유의미함이 없었기 때문에 이 연구의 결과들이 일반화 될 수는 없겠지만, 앞으로의 이 주제와 관련된 연구에 방향을 제시할 수 있겠다.
