Cultural and global awareness are required elements for successful teaching of foreign languages in elementary schools. Numerous studies of multicultural programs conducted in different countries provide a body of evidence establishing that cultural and global awareness are essential for unlocking successful communication between individuals from different cultures. This study focuses on elementary level English lesson plan development by Korean student teachers who participated in an international teaching training program in the United States. Emphasis of the program was given to improving Korean students’ English teaching abilities by preparing lessons on Korean cultural activities that they later taught in the United States.
Abstract
