자기주도적 초등영어 학습 방안

Abstract

The present study aims to devise an English learning activity which can help elementary school students develop learner-autonomy. Each of the English textbooks currently used in Korean elementary schools contains a self-assessment section designed to help students develop autonomous learning ability. In reality, however, both teachers and students don't recognize its significance and don't make proper use of it. In this context, the study offers a model which was developed with the intention of helping students improve their autonomous learning ability by making them check their previous knowledge, set individual learning goals and see at a glance their change made through the learning process. Both 5th graders and 3rd graders who did an activity with the given model made comments which can be interpreted to show its effect. Their teachers also reported the model seemed to have contributed to the development of learner autonomy. Grounded on this positive feedback, the study offers the given model as a realistic tool for learner-autonomy, and suggests it be presented for students repeatedly leading them to develop a habit of autonomous learning.
