Abstract

Among the 226 books of GeumseokJipcheop, 220 are currently delivered. There are 88 kinds of Buddhist data currently. There are 10 data of Buddhist materials newly known through the GeumseokJipcheop, and 11 other types are the first known rubbing materials. Of the 88 Buddhist data, 41 are memorial stones for 35 monks. The Buddhist memorial stones built in the 17th and 18th centuries count up to 140, until 1760, the period of collecting GeumseokJipcheop, are 90. Among them, 17 were built at Bohyeonsa, and 13 were built at Geumgangsan Temple, including Yujeomsa, Baekhwaam, and Geonbongsa. As for the southern temples, 9 were built in Daeheungsa and Mihwangsa. The 39 Buddhist memorial stones erected in these temples indicate that Bohyeonsa and Daeheungsa were at the center of Buddhist activities during this period. Among the 90 Buddhist memorial stones, 41 were collected and included in the GeumseokJipcheop. All of the 41 contain the lives of monks who showed outstanding activities. Of the 41, Bohyeonsa's ascendancy is 15, and 12 were built in Gangwon-do. Gyeonggi-do has 2, Gyeongsang-do 2, Jeolla-do 3, and Hwanghae-do and Hamgyeong-do have 2. The Buddhist memorial stones of GeumseokJipcheop tells us that among the Cheongheo lineage, the four branches are continuously inherited and active at Geumgangsan. It shows that Jeonggwan branch was dispersed into various regions, and Soyo branch was a trend that led the lecture at Daeheungsa. The largest number of data were included, with 18 pieces of Pyeonyang branch, and the monks show that among the same two-sided schools, they had different stages of activities depending on the series. Pungdam-Weoljeo-Seolam who inherited Pyeonyang, worked for generations at Bohyeonsa, establishing a pivotal status than any other branch. Pungdam-Woljeo-Seolam carried out activities based on both Bohyeonsa Temple and Daeheungsa Temple. These Weoljeo series led Buddhist streams along with Pungdam-Weoldam-Whanseong -Hoam-Yeondam. They joined with Soyo branch, and led Daeheungsa as the most active temple. As such, the monument contained in the GeumseokJipcheop has a Buddhist historical significance that shows the trend of change in the Buddhist community in the 17th and 18th centuries. In particular, the inscription of GeumseokJipcheop is of great significance in that it clearly shows that Pyeonyang branch show overlapping activities at Bohyeonsa and Daeheungsa, and gradually show the central aspect of Daeheungsa. Seolam Chubung, Unpa Euijun, Byeokheo Wonjo, Cheonyeon Jiwon, the newly introduced memorial stones of Bohyeonsa in the 18th century show the situation in which the contents of the inscription are gradually abbreviated and it is difficult to know the details of the activity. In addition, the Buddhist memorial stones contained in the GeumseokJipcheop have the significance of clearly showing the trend of change in the Buddhist community in the 17th and 18th centuries.
