압델마렉 사이아드의 이주의 사회사는 프랑스로 간 알제리인들의이주뿐만 아니라 이주 자체를 총체적 사회적 사실로 파악하는 데핵심적인 역할을 한다. 사이아드가 식민화와 이주 사이의 관계를 천착할수 있었던 것은 ‘입민’과 ‘출민’은 서로 분리될 수 없다는 그의 일관된관심 때문이었다. 사이아드의 연구가 지닌 가장 큰 장점 가운데 하나는알제리의 식민화가 프랑스로의 알제리인들의 이민을 촉발한 역사적과정을 선명하게 밝혔다는 데 있다.
Abstract
The social history of migration of Abdelmalek Sayad has been essential not only to the study of Algerian immigration to France, but to the understanding of migration as total social fact. His keen interest in the objectifcation of the totality of the migratory experience in which an immigration cannot be separated from an emigration leads him to explore the relationship between colonization and immigration. One of the great strengths of Sayad’s work is that it brings to light the historical process through which the colonization of Algeria engendered Algerian immigration to France.
