이 연구는 한국으로 이주해 온 탈북자의 ‘마음’의 단면을 문화적으로 이해하려는 시도이다. 2011년부터 지속적으로 관계를 맺고 있는 탈북자 가족과 연구자는 2014년 인천아시안게임 여자 축구 준결승전을 경기장에서 직접 관람하였다. 축구 국가대항 경기는 축구의 대중성과 국가를 대표하는 두 팀의 대결이라는특징으로 인해 국가 정체성이 발현되는 장이 되어 왔다. 특히 남과 북으로 분단된 채 대치하고 있는 상황을 감안하면, 북을 떠나 남한에 정착한 탈북자 가족과연구자가 남북 대항 축구 경기를 통해 느끼고, 경험하고, 서로 교류한 단상을살펴보는 것은 분단된 마음의 지형을 읽어내려는 시도가 된다. 본 논문은 자아문화기술지적 연구 방법을 차용하여 탈북자가 어떻게 한국이라는 이주국에서‘국가’, ‘민족’과 ‘이주’ 사이를 넘나들면서 자신들의 ‘마음’을 구축하는지를 살펴볼 것이다. 또한 대치하고 있는 남과 북이 축구를 매개로 다시 한 번 ‘대결’을 펼치는 상황에서 상당 기간 동안 북한 출신 주민과의 관계를 맺어온 ‘연구자’는 또 어떤 ‘마음’인지를 함께 탐색하는 것이 본 글의 목적이다.
Abstract
This article aims to understand a particular facet of North Korean defectors’ mind in a more cultural perspective while they watch a national football match. I, the researcher, have been building on close relationship with North Korean defector family since 2011. In 2014, during the Incheon Asian Game, we went to see the women’s football match between the North and South Korea, and this is a short essay about the trip to watch the game. Football is one of the most popular sports, and national football match would be a cultural field where national identity could be (re) emerged due to its battle style features. Given the division system and legacy of the Cold War in Korean peninsula, this article hopes to provide thick-descriptions on how North Korean defectors and the researcher feel and experience the game engaging with autoethnographic method. By doing this, this article would like to investigate the ways North Korean defectors (re)construct their minds in the process of conflicts and negotiations in the intersection of ‘nation’, ‘ethnicity’ and ‘migration’. Moreover, it would trace the trajectories of the researcher’s mind based on the long-term interactions of the North Korean defector family.
