이 연구는 코로나 팬데믹 상황에서 대면 접촉이 제한·금지된 가운데 디지털 기술·매체를 매개로 이뤄지는 상호작용을 단지 접촉 부재나 비대면의 확장이 아니라 대면 맥락이 강화된 매개된 장소에서 수행되는 선별적 자기 전시로 논의하고 있다. 주요 내용을 정리하면 다음과 같다. 우선, 이 연구는 장소와 네트워크의 상호 연결 및 장소의 실천적 특성에 대한 개념·이론적 논의를 통해 매개된 장소를 물리적 위치나 단일한 정체성에 고정된 것이 아니라 다층적이고 복합적인 사회적 형성으로 개념화하고 있다. 둘째, 이 연구는 사회적 삶의 디지털화에 따라 매개적이면서 대면적인 사회적 상황이 일상화되고 있으며 이러한 디지털 소통 상황의 변화가 매개된 장소에서의 상호작용 및 사회적 행위의 복합성을 심화하고 있다는 점을 강조한다. 마지막으로, 이 연구는 대면 맥락이 강화된 매개된 장소에서의 사회적 상호작용의 복합성을 화상 대화나 화상 회의실 등에서 이뤄지는 선별적 자기 전시의 일상적인 과정으로 분석하는 한편, 디지털 생활세계의 모호하고 배제적인 측면과 연관된 복잡미묘하고 차별적인 자기 전시의 차원 역시 탐색하고 있다.
Abstract
This study discusses the digital interactions taking place in situations where face-to-face contact is restricted or prohibited due to the COVID-19 pandemic as a selective self-exhibition performed in mediated places with a reinforced face-to-face context. The main contents are summarized as follows. First, this study pays attention to the interrelation of places and networks and the practical characteristics of placeness, and approaches mediated places as multiple and complex processes of social formation rather than being fixed on a physical location or single identity. Second, this study emphasizes that mediated and face-to-face situations are becoming commonplace in the digital life world, and these changes in social situations are deepening the complexity of social interactions in the mediated places. Finally, in order to research the complexity of social interactions in mediated places where the face-to-face context is enhanced, this study analyzes the specific characteristics of the selective self-exhibition that is routinely performed in video conversations and video conference rooms, while also exploring the subtle and discriminatory characteristics of digital self-exhibition that are related to the ambiguous and exclusive aspects of of the digital life world.
