Abstract
This study investigated the effects of a loving-kindness & compassion meditation on altruistic behavior of undergraduate students. In this study, situation of altruistic behavior(donation) is separated for investigating compassion motivations. Participants were assigned to two different groups; loving-kindness&compassion mediation(LK&CM) group, concentration meditation(CM) group. Both groups exercised each meditation for three days. The measurement was completed before and after exercising. Before exercising, donation situation didn't have anonymity. After exercising, donation situation had anonymity. Both exercising resulted in significant decreases in altruistic behavior. But, donation of LK&CM group was higher than CM group. This result means LK&CM has an effect on altruistic behavior. Although the study couldn't explain a mechanism of altruistic behavior as separating compassion motivations, give some possibilities for studying of compassion motivations.
