예수의 승천(昇天)에 대한 신학적 반성

그리스도교 신앙은 전통적으로 부활과 승천을 구분해왔다. 그리고승천절을 부활절과 성령강림절 중간에 위치시키면서 한 편으로는 현존하시는 그리스도를 지시하고, 다른 한 편으로는 성령 강림이 승천으로말미암아 이루어진 사건임을 시사해 주었다. 그러나 현대신학은 부활과 승천을 동일한 사건의 두 가지 측면으로제시하면서 승천을 신학적 논의에서 배제하는 경향을 보여준다. 이러한견해의 배후에는 부활과 승천 모두가 정의상 지상적인 시간이 아니라하나님의 시간, 즉 영원 속에서 일어난 사건이라는 신학적 인식이 존재한다. 그러나 승천이 부활의 빛에 가려져 부활과 재림 사이에 아무것도설정되지 않는다면 무엇보다도 현존하시는 그리스도께서 당신의 몸을드러내시는 지평, 즉 우주의 미래로 현존하시는 우주적 그리스도가 시야에서 사라지기 쉬울 것이다. 본 소고는 승천의 신학적 의미를 현존하시는 그리스도의 역동적인존재 양태를 지시해주는데서 찾았다. 이를 위해 본 소고는 먼저 하나님의 영원 안에서도 시간적 흐름이 존재할 수 있음을, 따라서 부활과 승천을 실제로 구분할 수 있음을 제시한 후 승천의 의미를 해명해보았다. 그 결과 승천은 첫째, 현존하시지만 오직 성령에 의해서만 인식될 수 있는 그리스도의 존재 양태를 지시해준다. 필자는 이 주제를 그리스도교 전통의 성만찬 논쟁과 교회론 논쟁을 고찰해보는 가운데 다루어보았다. 둘째, 승천은 결국 현존하시는 그리스도를 우주의 미래로 선포한다. 그러나 승천의 신학, 특히 승천신학에 내재되어 있는 성령론은 예수그리스도의 삶 전체 속에서 조명되어야 한다. 그렇게 하지 않는다면 승천 신학은 삼위일체의 신비를 해소시킬 수도 있기 때문이다. 달리 말하자면, 승천 신학에 전제되어 있는 것, 즉 예수는 성령을 받아들이기 위해 자신을 비우시는 분이라는 사실을 늘 염두에 두어야 한다. 이러한사실을 감안하면서 우리는 다음과 같이 말할 수 있을 것이다. 예수는오늘도 성령을 받아들이며 내쉬는 분이다. 그러나 이론적인 반성뿐 아니라, 성령의 인도하심을 받아 현존하시는 그리스도의 몸을 드러낼 수 있는 실천의 길을 제시하는 것 또한 중요하다. 사실 승천이 현대신학에서 홀대받았던 것도 현존하시는 그리스도의 신비에 참여하는 신앙의 실천이 경시되었던 것과 무관하지 않을것이다. 이러한 의미에서 성찬 및 예전의 의미를 현존하시는 그리스도의 빛에서 새롭게 조명할 뿐 아니라, 그리스도의 몸에 참여하는 행위를일상의 삶 한 가운데서 구체적으로 제시하는 것이야말로 신학에 주어진 중요한 과제라 할 수 있다.
Abstract
The Ascension of Jesus is the Christian teaching found in the New Testament that the resurrected Jesus was taken up to heaven,occurring 40 days after the resurrection. The Synoptic includes two brief descriptions of the Ascension of Jesus in Luke 24:50-53 and Mark 16:19. A more detailed account of Jesus’ bodily Ascension into the clouds is then given in the Acts of the Apostles 1:9-11. The traditional Christianity has distinguished the resurrection and the ascension of Jesus, and located the Ascension of Jesus between Easter and Pentecost. But the greater part of modern theologians regards the resurrection and the Ascension of Jesus as two aspects of one event. In other words, they interpret Jesus’ exaltation in heaven merely as the counterpart of his resurrection. This essay is from the awareness that the Ascension means to enter into the realm of God. In this paper, I have attempted to make clear the theological meaning of the Ascension of Jesus, so that we could find the way to make an approach to the reality and the message of the Ascension of Jesus. The result is as follows. With regard to the problem of reality of the Ascension, I maintain that the Ascension could be distinguished from the resurrection of Jesus, though both reality could be thought as event that occurred in the eternity of God. On this basis I ascertained that the Ascension of Jesus indicates the existence mode of present Christ. In this context I tried to explicate the meaning of this confession, and reached the conclusion that this confession asks us to understand the ascension of Jesus as the transcendent reign of cosmic Christ. Finally I proposed to interpret the Ascension theology in the light of the whole Christ event, namely of the trinity, so that the ascended Christ could be thought both as the sender of the Holy Spirit and the receiver of the Holy Spirit.
