예수의 동정녀 수태에 대한 신학적 반성

그리스도인들은 전통적으로 동정녀 수태 전승에서 하나님의 기적을읽어냈다. 기적이 신앙을 입증해주던 시대에는 이러한 기적이 예수의정체성에 상응하는 사건으로 이해될 수 있었다. 그러나 기적에 대한 이야기를 경외심이 아니라 의심의 눈초리로 바라보는 계몽주의 이후의현대인들에게는 동정녀 수태 전승이 기껏해야 고대의 신화로 밖에 보이지 않을 수도 있다. 본 소고는 다양한 해석들과 논쟁을 촉발시켰던 동정녀 수태 전승을신학적으로 반성해 보았다. 무엇보다도 논란의 쟁점이 되었던 동정녀수태 전승의 역사성 문제를 살펴본 후 이 교리의 본래적 메시지를 해명해 보았다. 그 결과 본 소고는 학문적으로 검증할 수 있는 증거만으로는 동정녀 수태의 역사성을 단정지울 수 없다는 브라운(Raymond E. Brown)의 견해에 동의하게 되었다. 즉 이 전승을 역사적 전승으로 보는 견해뿐 아니라 이 전승을 비(非)역사적 전승으로 보는 견해에도 문제가 있음을 밝히려 했다. 본 소고는 또한 대부분의 현대 신학자들과 함께 동정녀 수태 전승을－달리 해석될 수도 있는－역사적 체험이나 사실을 믿음의 눈으로바라보고 선포하는 신앙 고백으로 이해하고, 그 의미를 해명해 보았다. 이러한 과정 속에서 본 소고는 동정녀 수태 교리의 의미를 다음과 같이 제시해 보았다. 첫째, 동정녀 수태는 예수의 정체성을 하나님의 새 창조로 선포한다. 둘째, 동정녀 수태는 예수의 온전한 인성, 즉 우리와의 동일성을 지시해 준다. 셋째, 동정녀 수태는 예수와 우리와의 동일성뿐 아니라 차이도 제시해 준다. 예수의 동정녀 수태는 또한 부활하신분의 몸인 신령한 몸이 부활 후에 비로소 생겨난 것이 아니라 처음부터 존재했던 예수의 정체성이었다는 사실을 암시해 주기도 한다. 마지막으로 본 소고는 더 깊은 이해를 위해 한 편으로는 유대인들이 주장했던 사생아설 이나 양자론과도 열린 마음으로 대화할 것을 촉구했으며, 다른 한 편으로는 가톨릭의 마리아론과의 대화를 미래의 연구 과제로 제시했다. 왜냐하면 브라운이 말했듯이 그리스도교 신앙은아무리 고통스럽더라도 진리 외의 것으로 도피할 수 없기 때문이다.
Abstract
The traditional Christianity has understood the virginal conception of Jesus-the idea that through the power of the Holy Spirit Jesus was conceived of Mary a virgin - as miracle of God. This understanding reinforces the faith in Jesus as the son of God. So the virginal conception of Jesus has been understood as the historical event that reveals the identity of Jesus, that is, the uniqueness and humanity of Jesus. But the modern rationalists who see the miracle not with the eyes of respect but with the eyes of the suspect, regards the virginal conception of Jesus as embarrassing problem. In this paper, I have attempted to make clear the theological thinking of the virginal conception of Jesus, so that we could find the way to make an approach to the historicity and the message of the virginal conception of Jesus. The result is as follows. With regard to the problem of historicity, I agree with R. E. Brown who maintains that the totality of the scientifically controllable evidence leaves an unresolved problem. Even if the modern theology failed to reach an agreement on the problem of historicity. the great part of modern theologians are of the same opinion that the tradition of the virginal conception has the character of confession of faith. In this context I tried to explicate the meaning of the virginal conception as confession of faith, and reached the conclusion that this confession of faith asks us to accept Jesus as the new creation of Holy Spirit and as the truly human. Finally I proposed the dialogue on the one hand with the Jewish adoptionism and charge of illegitimacy, and on the another with the catholic Mariology. Because Christianity can never seek refuge in anything except the truth, painful as it may be.
