오늘날 한국교회의 진지한 문제 가운데 하나는 재물과 부(富)에 관한 기독교적 이해이다. 이 논문은 현대 교회론적 방법론을 통해서 웨슬리의 재물과 부의 이해를 재구성해보려는 시도이다. 웨슬리는 그당시의 교회와 사회적 질문에 성서적인 대답을 분명하게 제시하였다. 이런 그의 대답을 바탕으로 웨슬리의 교회론을 현대교회론의 한시도인 공감교회론의 관점으로 적용할 수 있는지를 가늠한다. 그렇기에 먼저, 1) 특별히 필자가 추구하는 공감교회론의 중요한 동기인 ‘조언으로서의 교회론’을 간략히 서술한다. 방법론으로는 알프레드 예거의 교회론적 모형을 사용하였다. 그리고 이 방법론에 따라서 2) 당시 웨슬리의 교회론적 설교가 영국 사회와 교회에 강력한 조언으로서의 역할을 담당했는지를 논할 것이다. 또한 3) 웨슬리의 교회론적 조언이 오늘날 한국교회에도 여전히 유효하며, 또한 하나의중요한 조언을 제시하였음을 밝히고자 한다.
Abstract
One of the serious Issues the Korean churches are facing is about how to truthfully understand the property and wealth from the Christian perspectives. This paper attempts to reconstruct Wesley’s understanding of this question through an ecclesiological methodology. Wesley made clear the biblical answers to the questions of the church and society at that time. Based on his discussions and arguments, we study whether his ecclesiology can be applied to the viewpoint of ‘ecclesiologi of compassions,’ one of modern ecclesiological attempts. First of all, 1) I will briefly deliberate the idea of the ecclesiology as church’s counseling(Kirchenberatung), which is an important motive of ‘ecclesiology of compassions’ that I have pursued in particular. Alfred Jaeger’s ecclesiological model was used as a methodology. Following this methodology, I will discuss 2) how Wesley’s sermons in the congregation at that time served as powerful counsels to the then British society and the church. Expanding his case in point, 3) this paper will suggest that Wesley’s ecclesiological advice(Kirchenberatung) is still valuable in our churches today and has also provided important counsels for modern Christianity.
