본고는 2010년대 이후 불평등과 다원주의의 도전 속에서 사회통합의과제를 수행해 온 독일 개신교회의 공공신학 연구를 목적으로 하고 있다. 특히 다양성 속의 일치를 추구했던 볼프강 후버와 시민사회에서 기독교 신학의 응답을 모색했던 베드포드-슈트롬이 지도력을 행사해왔던 EKD의 공공신학적, 교회론적 대응을 살펴보고 있다. 이를 통해 첫째로 시대적, 사회적 도전 속에서 교회가 어떠한 역할을 수행해야 하는지 방향을 얻고자 하며, 둘째로 신학의 이론적 작업이 실제 세계에서어떠한 역할로 이어질 수 있는지 살펴보고자 한다. 셋째, 궁극적으로한국적 공공신학을 수립하기 위해 어떤 방향적 지침을 얻을 수 있을지모색해 보고자 한다. 이러한 주제를 본고는 특히 후버와 베드포드-슈트롬의 신학적 작업을 비롯, 최근 EKD 내에서 활동 중인 공공정책 담당자들의 연구서들을 통해 살펴보고, 동시에 이 시기 발간된 정책서(Handschrift)들과 일련의 문서 등을 참조하여 고찰해 보고자 한다. 앞으로 한국 신학의 현장에서도 공공신학을 추구하는 교회는 포용과 다양성의 존중, 차이의 존중과 분배의 정의라고 하는 사회윤리적 개념을추구해 나갈 것이 요청되며, 교회는 이러한 공공성의 담론에 기여하고길을 모색할 때, 스스로의 생존을 넘어서 세상에 필요한 교회로 자리매김하게 될 수 있을 것이다.
Abstract
This paper aims to study the public theology of the German Protestant Church(EKD), which has been carrying out the task of social integration amid the challenges of inequality and pluralism since 2009, centering on the leadership of Huber and Bedford-Strohm. As leaders of the public church, Huber has been seeking answers for the church in the pluralistic society, and Bedford-Strohm for the direction of Christianity in civil society. With this study, this paper at first attempts to find a direction for the role the church should play in the face of social challenges. Second, it examines what practical influence the theology can have in the public sphere. Third, ultimately, it explores to find guidance in establishing Korean public theology. This paper intends to comprehensively consider these topics by referring to the research of the theologians in the EKD and policy documents recently submitted in the German Church (EKD) in relation to this field. Churches pursuing public theology in a complex modern society are required to pursue inclusiveness, respect differences and diversity, and be concerned about the issue of fair distribution of wealth. When the church itself contributes to the discourse of public spheres and try to seek a solution, it will be able to establish itself as a necessary member of society, leaving behind the struggle for its own survival.
