현대의 무 경험과 그리스도교 신학의 무로서의 하나님 ― B. 벨테와 A. 예거의 무와 신 논의를 중심으로

본 논문은 현대 그리스도교 신학의 신-이해 중 특별히 ‘무로서의 하나 님’ 이해를 다루며, 이를 위해 하이데거의 제자로서 무에 대해 깊이 숙 고하여 신론을 전개한 로마 가톨릭 신학자 B. 벨테와 개신교 신학자 A. 예거의 논의를 살펴본다. 먼저 무란 존재의 반대말로서 그리고 언표되는 순간 모순을 범하는 애 매모호한 대상으로 이해되기 시작하여 결국 기독교 신학 안에서 신의 창조를 강조하는 부정적 혼돈으로 이해되었다. 그러나 무는 현대의 존 재론자 하이데거에 이르러 존재 자체의 다른 모습으로, 그리고 어떤 성 스러움과 연결된 무엇으로 새롭게 지시된다. 그리고 우리는 이러한 하 이데거의 무 물음을 신에게 관계시키면서 자신들의 신학을 전개하고 있는 벨테와 예거의 논의를 보다 구체적으로 접근해 본다. 벨테에게 무 란 단순한 비존재나 부정적인 어떤 것이 아니라 신적 차원을 담고 있는 현상이었으며, 나아가 성스러움을 가능하게 하는, 혹은 성스러움 그 자체의 담지자로서 이해되고 있었다. 예거는 무를 존재의 절대타자로 서 숙고하면서 이것이 결국 우리에게 감추어져 있던 신 자체의 모습임 을 강하게 주장한다. 이처럼 무와 신을 등치시킴으로써 논의를 끌어가는 신론은 분명 이전 시대의 형이상학적이고 닫혀있던 신학적 한계를 극복하는 새로운 길 로 역할을 수행해왔으며, 또한 수행 중에 있다. 그리고 우리 시대의 아 픔, 무의미, 고통과 더불어 신학이 지속적으로 자신을 구성해갈 수 있 는 새로운 단초가 되어주었다는 점에서 아직 현대신학의 핵심주제라 말할 수 있다.
Abstract
This paper deals with the understanding of ‘God as Nothing- ness.’ Especially we look into the discussion about the God-talks of contemporary Christian theology. First of all, the Nothingness is understood as the opposite of Being, and it begins to be understood as an ambiguous object, as soon as it is spoken, eventually as a negative chaos used for the creation of God in Christian theology. But the Nothingness is directed to Heidegger, the modern ontologian, as a different form of Being itself and to something connected with the Holiness. And we take a closer look at the discussions of B. Welte and A. Jäger, who have developed their theology, connecting these Heidegger’s Nothingness-question with God. For Welte, it was a phenomenon that contained the divine dimension, not just a nonexistence or a negative thing, and was understood as a bearer of the Holiness itself. Jäger ponders nothingness as the absolute other of existence, and strongly argues that this is the hidden image of God itself. This theological discussion relating the Nothingness-question to God-talk has certainly played a role as a new way to overcome the metaphysical and closed theological limitations of the previous era. In addition, it can be said that it is still the core theme of modern theology in that theology has become a new ground for continuously constructing itself with nihilsm, meaninglessness and pain of our time.
