폴 틸리히의 문화신학에 대한 상호문화적 비판 ― 베른하르트 발덴휄스의 타자 현상학을 중심으로

본 연구는 오늘날 조직신학이 염두에 두어야 하는 문화신학을 상호문화적 관점에서 재조명하고자 한다. 문화적 다양성이 상관관계를 맺는 생활세계 속에서 신학의 학문적 전개를 구현하는 것은 조직신학의 해야하는 것은 조직신학이 결코 간과할 수 없는 핵심 과제들 중의 하나이기에 본 연구에서는 이를 상호문화적 관점에서 다룰 것이다. 문화신학의 상호문화적 전개가능성을 살피고자 본 연구는 우선은 문화신학의 핵심적인 구성요소를 제시한 폴 틸리히의 “문화신학”을 하나의주춧돌로 삼을 것이다. 그의 문화신학은 문화와 종교의 상관관계에 기초하여 문화적 형식 속에서 종교적 내용이 어떻게 현상하는지를 비판적으로 분석하는 데에 주력하고 있다. 하지만 그는 문화신학을 조직신학의 핵심적인 프로그램으로 기획하기는 하였지만, 종교적 내용의 문화적해석학으로 충분히 그 논의를 발전시키지 않았다. 그래서 본 연구는, 종교와 문화의 상관관계에 기초한 문화신학의 분석적 의제를 수용하면서 오늘날 문화연구를 통하여 문화 자체의 상호적속성을 충실히 구현하는 문화신학의 지평적 확장을 모색하기 위해서, 베른하르트 발덴휄스의 상호문화철학 곧 “타자현상학”을 문화신학의 확장을 위한 비판적 렌즈로 활용하고자 한다. 그 역시 타자의 요구와 이에 대한 주체의 반응적 상관관계를 문화의 본질적 속성으로 보고 있다는 점에서 틸리히의 질문-답변-상관관계의 신학적 구조와 유사하다고 볼 수있다. 틸리히의 상관관계 방법을 상호문화적 관점으로 비판적으로 확장해 봄으로써 우리는 문화신학의 상호문화적 전개의 가능성을 발견할 수있을 것이다.
Abstract
This study tries to examine the systematic theological task of cultural theology from the intercultural perspective. For systematic theology, it is inevitable to keep in mind the meaning of Life-World in which cultural diversities relate to each other and to deal with cultural diversities from the intercultural perspective. To examine the possibility of intercultural development of cultural theology, this study will consider, first of all, Paul Tillich’s “Cultural Theology” as an essential element of cultural theology. His cultural theol- ogy focuses mainly on critically analyzing how religious substance comes out through cultural forms based on the correlation between cul- ture and religion. However, even if he planned cultural theology as an essential program of systematic theology, he did not develop it enough for cultural hermeneutics. Therefore, to extend the horizon of cultural theology that is grounded on the correlation of religion and culture while accepting its analytic task, this study will utilize the intercultural philosophy of Bernhard Waldenfels, i.e. “Phenomenology of Others” as a critical lens for intercultural development of cultural theology. In the sense that he considers the responsive correlation between the demands of others and the response of a subject to them as an essential attribute of culture, his thought can be seen as similar to the theological structure of Paul Tillich’s Question-Answer-Correlation. By critically expanding Tillich’s method of correlation from the intercultural perspective we will be able to find a possibility of intercultural development of cultural theology.
