초록
Using the figure of Roger Bacon as an example, this research note examines the contributions of systematic learning in medieval universities to the practice of medicine during that period. At that time, the founding of universities led to significant theoretical advances by reclaiming the philosophical underpinnings of medicine, questioning the nature of medicine itself, and restating its fundamental principles. In turn, this reformulated the medical knowledge that had survived fragmentally until the twelfth century. On the basis of this reformed medicine, Bacon critiqued the problems of existing medicine in detail and simultaneously outlined the conditions and direction of future medicine through his innovative treatise, Antidotarium. While we have ostensibly aimed only at the historical contextualization of the treatise, the resulting contextualization reminds us of the need for a multidisciplinary approach, at least in the study of late medieval medical history.
