뮤지컬 <스프링 어웨이크닝 리바이벌>의 미학 - 공연자 신체의 매체성을 중심으로

본 연구는 장애인과 비장애인이 함께 공연한 뮤지컬 <스프링 어웨이크닝 리바이벌>(2015)의 공연자 신체의 매체 미학적 특성을 탐구하였다. 이를 위해, 공연 기록 영상을 토대로 무대연출 방식과 배우들의 연행방식을 분석하였고, 공연 관련 영상, 공연에 대한 논의와 기사 등을 분석에 참조하였다. 본 공연에서 배우들의 신체는 감각이 교차하고 전치되어 관객들에게 전달되는 통로였으며, 상연 시 배우들의 신체 특성을 고려한 무대구성, 일반인과 장애인 배우 간의 분업과 협업에 기초한 감각 융합적 재현은 극 중 상황과 등장인물의 심리묘사에 깊이를 더하며 ‘소통’의 메시지를 생산하고 있었다. 따라서 본 공연에서 장애인 배우들의 신체는 관객들의 확장된 감각 경험과 사회적 상황 인식에 활용되어 관객들의 공연장에서의 체험을 사회적으로 확장하는 기능을 하고 있었다.
Abstract
The present study explores the media characteristics of performer’s body in musical Spring Awakening Broadway Revival(2015) which performed by disability and non-disability altogether. For this purpose, this study analyzed visual resources and articles which related to this musical. In this performance, there was a unique visual representation of transformed auditory senses, and the way of sense convergence representation fortifies characters and storytelling in this musical. Also, performers empathized their hypermediacy as transparently revealing performer’s disabled physical condition, it deepened the reality of drama and helped the audiences to feel the deaf culture and to understand the social status of disabilities more. Therefore, people had the opportunity to think the necessity of communication and cooperation between disabilities and non-disabilities in their society through experiencing the show.
