초록
In this paper, I attempt to analyze Zhang Lu’s films from a perspective of diaspora. This discussion focuses on women characters in Mang-zhong, Desert Dream,Iri, Dooman River, written and directed by Zhang Lu, in order to investigate how those films describe diaspora. I try to discuss it in term of form as well substance in those films. Zhang Lu has dealt with the issues of diaspora constantly-and the women’s lives which can be said the lowest stratum of diaspora at that. Women in those films have lived floating lives with deep hurts. Their painful lives are filled with the limitations and contradictions of nation, class, or gender. He records through a camera watching their lives calmly without overstating them. Thus, we can find some rootless lives in his films: some beings who had left their homeland as a bad effects of imperialism, or their descendants who have not settled down in an unfamiliar foreign land, nor gotten back to their homeland. We will be aware that they also overlap our image in a overdeveloped capitalistic society.
