이 글은 <여자가 계단을 오를 때>와 <명동에 밤이 오면>의 각 시나리오와 영화 본편을 비교해 1960년대 초중반 한국영화에서 영화적 표절과 번안의 양식(Mode of Cinematic Plagiarism and Adaptation)이 작동하고 있음을 검토한다. 당시 표절작으로 거론되는 한국영화들은 일본영화 시나리오를 베낀 각본을 바탕으로 제작 현장에서 감독의 연출에 의해 새롭게 창작되었다. 원작 시나리오의 스토리와 플롯, 등장인물과 대사 등 본질적 서사 요소는 거의 동일하지만 시청각적 요소가 한국의 것으로 창작되며 같지만 다른 영화로 만들어지는 것이다. 이때 시각적 요소는 데쿠파주와 미장센의 차원, 청각적 요소는 영화음악이 그 차이를 만들어낸다. 1960년대 한국영화는 시나리오 차원의 번안적 표절과, 쇼트 구성부터 영화음악까지 연출 차원에서의 번안적 창작이 합쳐져 조직되었다.
Abstract
This article compares the Japanese film When a Woman Ascends the Stairs with the South Korean film When Night Falls to Myeongdong and respective screenplay to examine how modes of cinematic plagiarism and adaptation in Korean films of the early and mid-1960s. Korean films during this period often used plagiarized Japanese screenplays as a starting point to create different productions. Narrative elements such as the story and plot of the original screenplays, characters and dialogues remained almost identical, but audiovisual elements are created as Korean. Decoupage and the mise-en-scene of the plagiarized films create visual departures, while film music furthered auditory differences. In conclusion, Korean film plagiarism in the 1960s combined screenplay plagiarism with adapting different aspects of direction, from shot composition to film scores.
