샹탈 애커만은 프랑스 영화의 전통과 미국 영화의 영향 아래에 놓여 있지만 영화사의 전통적인 계보에 속하지 않는 영화들을 만들어 온 독립적인 작가 감독이다. 전 세계를 떠돌며 작업해 온 디아스포라 예술가이자 이방인으로서 그녀는 극영화와 다큐멘터리, 인스톨레이션 등 다양한 영역의 작품들 속에 자기초상을 그려넣었다. 어머니의 마지막 시기를 담은 다큐멘터리 <노 홈 무비>는 그중에서도 가장 개인적인 영화일 것이다. 이 글은 애커만이 홀로코스트 생존자의 후손이면서 벨기에인이며 유대인이라는 사실에 초점을 두어 그의 영화를 규명하고자 한다. 애커만 영화에서 공간은 고향, 아우슈비츠, 유배, 뿌리 없음의 감각, 유대인, 노마디즘의 개념을 가시화하는 개인적이면서 동시에 역사적인 장소다. 이 글은 <노 홈 무비>에서 주요하게 등장하는 사막과 어머니의 집이라는 공간을 통해 포스트-쇼아 세대로서의 애커만의 정체성이 어떻게 구현되고 있는지를 고찰한다. 그리하여 샹탈 애커만 영화의 미학적이고 주제적인 정수를 담은 총합으로서, 어머니에게 바치는 연서이자 상실의 기록으로서, 무엇보다 애커만 자신의 정체성의 탐문으로서 <노 홈 무비>를 검토할 것이다.
Abstract
Even though Chantal Akerman is under the tradition of French film and influence of American film, she is an independent auteur who has made films which do not belong to traditional chronology in the film history. As an artist of diaspora and outsider who has worked all over the world, she has drawn her self-portrait in various areas of film such as feature films, documentaries and installations. No Home Movie will be the most personal documentary film which described last period of her mother. In the paper, Akerman’s film will be investigated focusing on the truth that she is a descendent of Belgians and a holocaust survivor. In Akerman’s film, space is a personal and historical place that visualizes home, Auschwitz, Exile, a sense of rootlessness, Jew, and the concept of nomadism. It will be studied how described Chantal Akerman’s Identity as post-Shoah generation, through the space of mother’s home and desert which mainly appear in the No Home Movie. Therefore, No Home Movie will be reviewed as a sum of the aesthetic and topical essence of Chantal Akerman’s film, as a love letter for her mother, as a record of loss, and most importantly, as questioning about his identity.
