Abstract
Movie theater subscription programs were first introduced in France, later expanding to the United States. The expansion to major movie theater chains before and during the COVID-19 pandemic is a testament to their influence and market value. In the mid-2020s, these programs have become a sort of worldwide phenomenon. This study begins by examining the structural characteristics of the U.S. film industry, with an emphasis on Hollywood, and offers a comparative analysis of two leading subscription services: MoviePass and AMC's Stubs A-List. By looking at the expansion of movie theater subscriptions from the perspective of the changing order of the U.S. film industry, this study aims to strengthen the consumption rights of audiences and suggests ways to sustainably grow the Korean movie theater market in a changing media environment.
