본 연구는 19세기 전반의 작곡가 쇼팽(Frédéric Chopin)의 예술가곡에서 나타나는 반음계적 화성 어법을 중심으로 작곡가가 텍스트의 의미를 자신의 고유한 방식으로 어떻게 표현했는지 살펴본다. 본 논문은 쇼팽의 음악 중 주변적인 작품으로 취급되는 경향이 있으며 피아노 작품에 비해 상대적으로 관심을 받지 못해 왔던 <가곡 Op. 74>를 연구 대상으로 삼는다. 본문에서는 <가곡 Op. 74>의 배경과 특징에 대해 개괄하고, 네 곡을 선택하여 작곡가의 반음계적 화성 어법에 초점을 맞추어 쇼팽의 가곡에서 나타나는 독창적인 요소들을 살펴본다. 무엇보다도 가곡은 기악 작품과 다르게 가사를 포함하고 있으므로 본 본문에서는 쇼팽이 이러한 반음계적 어법을 통해 가사의 내용과 분위기 및 화자의 감정을 어떻게 묘사하고 있는지에 대하여 논의한다. 이러한 과정을 통해 본 연구는 기존에 자세히 다루어지지 않았던 쇼팽의 가곡에 대해 보다 구체적인 분석을 제공함으로써 작곡가의 레퍼토리를 확장할 뿐 아니라 작곡가의 스타일에 대한 이해를 보다 넓히는 데에 도움이 되고자 한다.
Abstract
This study aims to present a new approach to Chopin’s music by examining Frédéric Chopin‘s reading and reinterpretation of poetic texts in his own musical language through the medium of songs. The focus is on Songs, Op. 74, a collection often considered peripheral to Chopin’s main oeuvre and has remained relatively less examined compared to his piano works. This research provides an overview of the background and characteristics of Songs, Op. 74 and analyzes four selected songs, which demonstrate Chopin’s chromatic harmonic language as the primary vehicle for text-music relationships. Unlike his instrumental music, Chopin used chromatic harmonies in his songs to reflect the text’s meaning, atmosphere, and the emotional nuances of the poetic speaker. Through this process, the study seeks to not only offer a broader comprehensive analysis of Chopin’s lesser-studied songs, but also to deepen our understanding of his style.
