Abstract

It is Martin Luther who knows better than anyone that praise is the way to communicate and remember God's Word in the most effective and original way. His enthusiasm, devotion, and deep understanding and knowledge of religion and art, along with the Reformation, have sublimated with efforts to return the scripture and the singing praise to the congregation that is the subject of worship. As a courageous pioneer and a faithful worshiper at the forefront of reformation, he certainly knew the plan of his calling. His efforts and dedication to enlarge, reorganize, and disseminate the congregational hymn in his native language, especially in worship, were compiled among various congregational hymns and worship. His challenge and new attempts to borrow songs that are familiar to people at that time. And using them as praise for worship are enough to give important value and significance to the development of Protestant congregational praise after the Reformation. I have emphasized in this study that Luther’s representative congregational hymn, Chorale, is the product of the greatest effort and enthusiasm of a pastor on “the restoration of the liturgical assembly” which is based on the essential foundation of participation. And the continuing study and value of the symbolism of the Reformation in the congregational hymn to help the restoration of the full communication and relationship with God and His people, and the value of today's Protestantism And tried to include the argument in the purpose and purpose that a deeper historical and theological examination of the practice and application of the meeting is indispensable. The worship and music of the medieval church gradually became an untruthful worship to the participation of the congregation, and congregational hymns were lost in the order of worship because the congregation was no longer the subject of worship. Thus, in chapter 2, I introduced Exodus 15, which was recorded as a praise worship with the first congregational psalms including the Psalms, and the hymn of Deuteronomy 32, where the congregational psalms consisted of God's revelation and the response of the worshipers. Based on this, I reconsidered the Biblical origin, purpose and hymn of the congregational hymn as the content and value that should be included and the biblical evaluation and expression method. Chapters 3 and 4, I reconsidered the significance of his faith and expertise, prepared through Luther's life and living, as a means of God's plan and history for the Reformation. Especially, as mentioned in the Psalms, the hymns of the pioneers of congregational hymns, including J.S. Bach, were made based on the secular music of various genres widely known among people at same era. Of course, in the following chapter, we also showed that many of the psalms and songs of Korean Protestant congregational hymns were based on these secular songs and strived to help understand the congregation in the hymn. Given the reality of Korean Protestant worship today, we have come to realize that reconciliation, communication, dialogue and participation must be restored as worship where all the people of Israel gathered together and worshiped God more than ever before. Through this study, I hope that the true implications of the congregational hymn will be reconsidered with a historical and biblical perspective in the memorial and memorial of Luther’s 500 – year anniversary of the Reformation under the proposition of “the restoration of liturgical assembly through congregational hymn”
