Abstract
This study seeks to present a biblically legitimate, theologically sound, and historically verified model of balanced congregational participatory worship between two extremes in contemporary Korean churches: pastor-centered worship structures and radically congregation-led worship. The research approaches from four dimensions. First, it analyzes early church worship models centered on Acts and 1 Corinthians to establish biblical foundations for congregational participation that harmonizes the Spirit's freedom with community order. Second, it demonstrates theological legitimacy through four dogmatic pillars: the priesthood of all believers, sacramental community theology, eschatological worship understanding, and the integration of worship and daily life. By extending worship beyond liturgical ceremonies to encompass all of life as spiritual sacrifice, it transcends mere formalistic debates. Third, while examining Luther's, Calvin's, and Zwingli's worship reforms, it reinterprets the participatory nature of liturgical worship, thereby overcoming the liturgy-freedom dichotomy. Fourth, it empirically analyzes Korean church worship contexts, critiquing both pastoral monopoly and the new monopoly of praise-leader-centered contemporary worship, warns against dangers of radically congregation-led worship represented by “open worship,” and proposes balanced practical models. Through this, the study proves that congregational participatory worship is not merely a formal change or methodological trend but an orthodox worship model grounded in biblical principles, theologically legitimate, and historically verified. It also contributes to Korean church worship renewal by presenting an integrated worship theology that harmonizes pastoral leadership with congregational participation, liturgical order with spiritual freedom, and ceremonial worship with daily sacrifice.
