이 연구는 초등학생들이 인식하는 우수교사의 특성이 무엇인지를 심도 있게 파악하는데 있다. 이 연구 목적을 달성하기 위한 연구문제는 초등학생들이 지각하는 우수교사의 특성은 무엇이며, 그것이 개념도 상에서는 어떻게 나타나며, 그것을 구성하는 하위 군집의 상대적 중요도는 어떠한가 이다. 이를 위해 J지역에 소재하는 한 초등학교 학생 15명을 대상으로 개념도 연구방법을 통해 자료를 수집하고 분석하였다. 이 연구의 결과는 첫째, 초등학생들은 우수교사의 특성을 수업- 생활 차원과 교사-학생 차원이라는 두 가지 차원에서 인식하는 것으로 나타났다. 둘째, 초등학생들이 인식하는 우수교사의 특성은 4개의 군집으로 구분되었고, 스스로 학습하도록 도와주는 교사, 재미있게 열심히 가르치는 교사, 학생을 존중해 주는 교사, 인간적으로 매력적인 교사로 나타났다. 셋째, 4개의 군집별 평균값의 차이는 크지 않았다. 그 중 연구 참여자들로부터 가장 중요시되는 진술문은 수업시간에 중요한 내용을 정확히 가르쳐주는 교사와 학생들에게 상처를 주는 말을 하지 않는 교사로 나타났다. 이 연구의 결론은 첫째, 이 연구에서 드러난 우수교사의 특성들은 교사의 개인적인 특성과 인성, 학습지도 능력, 생활지도 능력, 학급경영 능력, 그리고 인간관계능력과 관련이 있다는 점을 알 수 있었다. 둘째, 이 연구가 개념도 연구방법을 활용하여 참여자 관점에서 자료를 추출하였다는 점에서 우수 교사의 특성에 대한 보다 실제적이고 타당한 기초자료를 제공하고 있다는 점이다. 셋째, 이 연구는 추후 다양한 학생집단 혹은 다양한 지역에확대 적용하여 후속연구가 이루어진다면 더 객관적인 우수교사의 개념이 도출될 수 있을 것이며각종 정책 및 프로그램 개발에 활용될 수 있을 것이다.
Abstract
This study explored the characteristics of effective teachers using the technique of concept mapping. The research questions are follow: First, what are characteristics of an effective teachers as perceived by elementary school students? Second, what can be determined about effective teaching by studying the concept maps? Third, what is the relative importance of the items that form the characteristics of effective teachers? This study will shed light on this subject by analyzing data and concept maps taken from interviews with a group of elementary school students regarding which characteristics are most prevalent in effective teachers according to them. This research followed research procedures. 15 elementary school students were interviewed; 349 ideas were collected. And through the process of synthesizing and editing, the final statements were reduced to 59. 15 participants classified and rated the final statement lists. Multidimensional scaling and cluster analysis was employed to estimate dimensions in the previous extracted factor. As a result, concept maps were formed that consisted of 2 dimensions and 4 clusters. The results of this study are as follows: First, elementary school students perceived a 'class - life' dimension and a 'teacher - student' dimension. Second, elementary school students perceived the characteristics of an effective teachers in 4 clusters. First was that the teacher helped the students to study on my own; second, that the teacher taught the students hard work and fun; third, that the teacher showed respect to the students; and last, that the teacher was humanly attractive. After determining the 4 clusters, the rating results of each cluster was similar. The participants frequently mentioned in the final statement that the teacher teaches important topics in class and the teacher does not talk down to the students. Not only was this study was able to extract data using qualitative research methods, but it also portrayed the findings using a visually attractive technique. Therefore, this study will provide appropriate basic data about elementary school students' portrayal of effective teachers.
