진로교육 관점에서의 과학교과서 분석 및 초등교사들의 인식

Abstract

The purpose of this study is to analyze the 2009 revised science textbooks in terms of career education program, and to survey the perception of elementary teachers about it. For this, 7 criteria for analysis of science career education program were set up and elementary school teachers were asked to give us their opinions about the real condition of career education program and their perception of career education, using questionnaire. Throughout this study the following findings were obtained. First, the most accessible areas of career education from elementary school science textbooks are 'understanding of science profession' and 'positive attitudes and values on science profession'. 'positive attitudes and values on science profession' area is mainly presented through learning contents related to Biology. However, 'decision-making ability on science profession' and 'understanding of human relationship' areas are difficult to find in elementary school science textbooks. Second, although science textbooks mostly deal with the science in everyday life from science story, this is insufficient for career education. Because textbooks focus on the concepts and principles of science, not career education. Besides, although a lot of contents about scientists and science history are contained, informations of career exploration are not. Third, despite the teachers strongly recognize the need for a science-related career education, they do not teach sufficiently. In opinion of teachers, the most important areas are 'understanding of science profession' and 'positive attitudes and values on science profession'. The most insufficient area is 'understanding of the self'. Fourth, the preferred method for career education is using the mass media (eg, TV, newspapers, etc.), and teachers think career education should be taught whenever there are career education-related contents in class. Fifth, the reason that teachers can't teach career education is the lack of career guidance programs and time for it. To activate the career education, career education materials should be contained in science textbook wherever there is a career education-related content. In addition, a variety of career education programs should be developed. Sixth, institutions for career guidance and counseling should be increased and there should be support from society for making and applying of career education by mass media, and for providing of career exploring programs from the enterprises. And, teachers must apply the science information on career guidance programs.
