이 연구는 지역사회 환경문제 기반 프로젝트 학습이 초등학교 5학년 학생들의 생태시민성에 미치는 효과를 알아보기 위한 연구이다. 연구의 목적을 달성하기 위하여 2022 개정교육과정의 방향성과 생태시민성의 영역 및 구성요소를 바탕으로 프로그램 목표를 설정하고, 2015 개정교육과정의 국어, 과학, 실과, 미술, 창의적 체험활동을 재구성하여 12차시 프로그램을 개발하였다. 수업 적용 효과를 분석하기 위한 설문지는 선행연구에서 개발된 생태시민성 영역 및 구성요소 틀과 학년 수준을 고려하여 재구성하였다. 정량적 연구 결과는 SPSS 26.0. 통계 프로그램을 사용하여 분석하였고, 정량적 분석의 한계를 보완하기 위해서 포트폴리오, 소감문, 면담을 통한 정성적 분석을 실시하였다. 이 연구 결과는 첫째, 생태시민성에 미치는 효과를 알아보기 위해 프로젝트 학습을 활용하여 지역사회 환경문제의 원인과 해결 방안을 탐색하는 지역사회 기반 환경교육 프로그램을 개발⋅적용하였다. 둘째, 지역사회 환경문제 기반 프로젝트 학습은 초등학생의 생태시민성 함양에 긍정적 영향을 미쳤다. 셋째, 정성적 분석 결과, 프로젝트 과정 중 학습자의 주체성을 보장하고 지역사회로 학습의 장을 확장한 경험이 학생들의 참여와 실천에 긍정적인 영향을 미쳤다. 결론적으로 프로젝트 학습을 통한 지역사회 기반 환경교육 프로그램은 초등학교 현장에 적용할 수 있으며, 의식적 측면의 환경교육에서 학습자의 직접적인 참여와 실천 같은 행동적 측면이 고려된 환경교육 프로그램 개발의 필요성을 확인하였다는 점에서 의미가 있다.
Abstract
This study examined how project learning on local community environmental issues of ecological citizenship among fifth-grade elementary school students. To this end, program goals were established according to the direction of the 2022 revised curriculum and the domains and components of ecological citizenship. A total of 12 sessions were developed by reconstructing the Korean language, science, practical arts, arts, and creative experience activities of the 2015 revised curriculum. In addition, the researchers developed a questionnaire to facilitate the analysis of the effects of class application. This model considered grade level as well as the ecological citizenship domain and component framework developed in previous studies. The results of quantitative research were analyzed using SPSS 26.0, whereas qualitative analysis was conducted by collecting data from portfolios, impressions, and interviews to supplement the limitations of quantitative analysis. In summary, the study developed and applied a local community-based environmental education program to examine its effects on ecological citizenship and explore the causes and solutions of environmental problems in a local community by utilizing project learning. The results demonstrated that project learning based on local community environmental issues exerted a positive effect on the cultivation of ecological citizenship among elementary school students. The results of qualitative analysis illustrated that ensuring learners’ identity and expanding the learning field to the community during the project process exerted a positive effect on student participation and practice. The study concludes that a local community-based environmental education program that employs project learning can be applied to elementary school sites. Lastly, a meaningful aspect of the study is that it confirmed the necessity of developing environmental education programs that differentiate the behavioral aspects of learners, such direct participation and practice in environmental education, from conscious aspects.
