초록
In the past hundred years, the importance of the author to literary theories ofinterpretation has been disputed, first by the Russian Formalists, then via thetheoretical approach of American New Criticism, and finally, by Structuralismand Post-structuralism. In this paper, special attention is given to MichaelRiffaterre’s Structural Stylistics and Reception theory. The role of the author isperceived in a new light, through the introduction of an implicit reference thatunites the text, the reception of the text by readers, and the artistic attitudes of theauthor. We also discuss implicit reference, which is the sum of formal principlesorganizing literary work, as perceived by educated and informed readers (i.e.,l’archilecteur [super reader]) and confirmed by the principles governing theauthor’s poetics. In implicit reference, all those aspects of writers’personal livesand behaviour which define their artistic practice and methods and the principlesgoverning their art return once more to the theory of interpretation.
