Abstract

The environmental aesthetics rised from the west at 1960s and 1970s developed very well at North America. Chinese scholars have involved in this field from the end of 1990s. After 20 years’ translation, introduction and interaction, Chinese academic circles have developed from simple learning to the theoretical construction. However, it’s easy for us to ignore the issue that the traditional American aesthetic theories have inner influences on the new discipline for we used to elucidate the specific aesthetic problems. Actually, the emergence and development of North American environmental aesthetics have always been affected by the American analytical aesthetics and pragmatical aesthetics imperceptibly. Environmental aesthetics could not get rid of the traditional core of art philosophy. The North American scholars use either the method of linguistic analysis or the empirical description which breaking the object-subject dual opposites for getting into the academic arena. Their theoretical development has distinct traditional marks. Rethinking the theoretical context of North American aesthetics can promote the comprehension of academic history and make the reference for the involvement of Chinese tradition into the future discipline construction.
