Economic Cooperation Between Korea and Russian Far East : Past, Present and Future

Korea began its first step in entering the Eurasian continent in 1990 when it established diplomatic relations with Russia. After about 30 years, even though the fact that the Korean government had been changed several times, the Northern Policy of Korea started from the Roh Tae-Woo administration has continued. It is well known that the main target country of this policy is Russia. A substantial economic exchange with Russia, independent of the Soviet Union, began in 1992. In the early days, economic cooperation between the two countries was at the level of simple trade. Since then, it has expanded on range of various fields such as local investment, technology, energy, and logistics cooperation. There have been several political and economic conflicts between the two countries, but they did not put the strings of exchange and cooperation. The reason is that they recognize that the economic cooperation potential for both countries is both helpful and necessary. Both countries are now at the beginning of a new leap forward. But various problems threaten it. Therefore, the attempts to overcome this and to form a new framework of cooperation will be focused on the Korean government strategy toward Russia, economic cooperation, and problems. Through this evaluation, I would like to assess the possibility of expanding economic cooperation between the two countries.
