초록
This study raises the question of what new literature is, referring to Hyun Kim’s ‘Western literature’ and ‘Eurocentrism’ as the limits of understanding Maurice Blanchot’s literature. First, this essay shows how Blanchot’s literature would be called ‘European centralism’ from the perspective of the Western apocalyptic tradition such as the Book of Revelations of St. John in New Testament, Christian philosophy, Kant, Hegel, Kierkegaard, Nietzsche, Heidegger, and Levinas. Blanchot’s interest in negative theology and writings on the apocalypse show that his thinking has to do with theological discourse. His focus is not on the eschatology in the former apocalyptic discourse, but on the repetition of the apocalyptic situation in the completed history. Next, in the discussion of what new literature is, this paper pays attention to that Blanchot talked about the end of literature and art in relation to the eschatological situation. He asks questions about where are literature and art going, along with research on some writers in the 1950s, and says that literature and art are heading toward disappearance. The disappearance or the end of literature that Blanchot refers to does not mean the real end. Rather, It is about the movement of writing that repeats endlessly. According to him, literature must exist through writing, which disappears toward the space of the literary work.
