초록

This study analyzes 60 disyllabic stative adjectives that can be reduplicated in both ABAB and AABB forms, analyzing them syntactically and semantically, and then explores their semantic expansion through iconicity. The results of the analysis are as follows: First, among the 60 disyllabic stative adjectives that can be reduplicated in both ABAB and AABB forms, those expressing ‘shape’ are the most prevalent. These adjectives are predominantly composed of parallel or modifying relationships, with the structure ‘adjective+adjective’ being the most common. Adjectives in parallel relationships are more likely to be reduplicated in AABB form, while those in modifying relationships are more likely to be reduplicated in ABAB form. Second, all disyllabic stative adjectives that can be reduplicated in both ABAB and AABB forms can function as subject, object, predicate, attributive, adverb, and complement. These reduplicated forms serve to intensify meaning, conveying ‘a high degree of intensity’, and emphasize the state through ‘vivid description’. Third, the ABAB and AABB reduplication forms exhibit semantic functions of ‘baby’, ‘repetition’, and ‘plural’ through iconicity. Through semantic shifts, these forms extend to convey meanings such as ‘contempt, affection, continuation, completion/result/perfective aspect’, and ‘lack of control’.
