본 연구는 한국계-미국인 초등학생과 부모들의 한국 민속무용 수업 참여 경험에 대한 인식과 반응을 알아보는 것이다. 이 목적을 위해 미국 하와이주 한인교회 내 한글교실에 참여한 초등학생 5명, 부모 3명 등을 연구참여자로 의도적 표집하였다. 연구방법은 연구 참여자들의 개방형 인터뷰, 반구조화 면담, 참여일지, 부모와의심층면담을 하였으며 관련 문서를 수집하였다. 자료 분석 및 해석은 질적 연구 방법으로 Strauss&Cobin(1998) 의 개방코딩(Open Coding)을 통해 범주화하는 과정을 거쳐 자료의 표면적 의미와 내면적 의미를 파악하고상호작용에 따라 자료를 분류하였다. 그 결과 다음과 같은 결론을 얻었다. 첫째, 연구 참여자들의 한국과 한국 민속무용에 대한 인식은, 한국에 대한 부족한 인식과 이중 문화에 대한 정체성 혼란, 한국어에 대한 어려움과 춤 학습에 대한 부담감으로 나타났다. 또한 부모가 느끼는 자녀들의 한국 민속무용 학습에 대한 인식으로는, 춤으로 배우는 문화 교육과 몸으로 인지하는 한국어 교육으로 인식하였다. 둘째, 한국 민속무용 경험후 반응으로는 연구 참여자들이 춤에 대한 적극성과 신체 즐거움을 느꼈다. 또한 이중 문화 간 인식 이해의폭이 넓어 졌으며, 공동체 의식 함양의 의미를 찾을 수 있었다.
Abstract
The study into the awareness and response of Korean-American elementary school students and parents who participated in Korean folk dance classes. To this end, it was deliberately collected 5 elementary school students and 3 parents who participated in the Korean class in the Korean church in Hawaii. The research methods were open interviews, semi-structured interviews, participation journal, in-depth interviews with parents and the related documents was collected. As data analysis and interpretation were qualitative research methods, it was identified the surface and internal meaning of the data and classified the data according to the interactions after the process of categorizing through open coding of Strauss & Cobin (1998). As a result, they recognized Korea and Korean folk dance as, first, lacking awareness of Korea, second, fear of Korean dance, and, third, difficulty in dual language. In the response after the Korean folk dance experience, participants, first, felt active in dancing and physical enjoyment, second, got a wider understanding of the awareness between the cultures, and, third, were encouraged to have a community spirit, and fourth received responses as cultural education that can foster a sense of community and grow into a global leadership, and, fourth, responded that they were cultural education that could grow into global leadership talents. For this reason, Korean folk dances for children of migrants living abroad and elementary school students living abroad should be distributed as an education type to be activated.
