Abstract
This study aims to examine the effect of cognitive process loading on motor performance and heart rate variability (HRV). The participants were a homogeneous group of 32 university students. To reach study goals, the cognitive process loading was set at three conditions (low, medium, high) as changing in distance of the target and the width of the Fitts’ task. HRV was measured during the Fitts’ task via BVP sensor and analyzed by time and frequency domain. For data analyses, we used SPSS 23.0 for One-way Repeated measures ANOVA and Post-hoc analysis at p<.05 level. In the results, motor performance in Fitts’ task and HRV (RMSSD) was significantly different according to the cognitive loading conditions. With higher cognitive process loading, the speed of movement on Fitts’ task was decreased and HRV (RMSSD) was increased. These results suggest that changes in HRV are associated with cognitive process, which maybe contribute to motor performance.
