이 논문은 漢字論이라는 시각에서 근대일본을 바라보고자 한다. 한자론이란, 동아시아에 있어서 공통의 書記的 언어문자로서 기능해온 한자가 多언어적 세계로서의 동아시아 근대의 성립과 더불어 구성되어온 문제를 말한다. 한자는 동아시아의 문명과 문화세계를 일원적으로 구성하는 계기로서 언급되어 왔지만, 한자에 의문이 제기되고 한자문제가 구성되어가는 것은 동아시아에 있어서 중화제국이라든가 중화문명이라는 일원적인 세계가 해체되고 동아시아가 多언어적인, 그야말로 다원적인 세계로 모습을 드러내는 근대에 와서이다. 이 동아시아의 근대가 구성하는 문제로서의 한자론은 그저 언어론적인 문제에 머물지 않는다. 동아시아의 근대화가 구미의 선진근대국가와 그 문명의 강한 충격을 받으며 수행된 것인 한, 근대화는 문명수용의 문제이기도 하다. 즉 동아시아 근대가 구성하는 문제로서의 한자론은 언어론적인 문제인 동시에 문명론적인 문제이기도 하다. 이 같은 한자론의 시각에서 근대일본을 바라볼 때, 한자문제는 근대일본의 복합적인 자기의식과 더불어 복합적이다.
Abstract
This thesis is study on modern Japan from a view of a theory of Chinese character. What does a theory of Chinese character mean? Most nations of east asia had used Chinese character as a common literal language. But it caused many problems so long as east asia had been modernized. A theory of Chinese character is concerned about the problems. Chinese character has been mentioned that it functioned as a common written language among east asian nations. In modern times of east asia, unified world called as Chinese empire or Chinese civilization were dissolved to multilingual and plural world. A theory of Chinese character doesn't focused on only linguistic matters but adopting western civilization because modernization in east asia was advanced with strong impacts of western modernized nations and its civilization. As a result, a theory of Chinese character as a problem of modernization of east asia is concerning both linguistic and civilized matters at the same time. Modern Japan from the view point of a theory of Chinese character showed a complex self-consciousness.
